Letters: Request info

Dear sir,

My name is Claire Cororaton and I am an IB Business student at Marshall High SChool. Im am doing a business paper regarding “Asian Imports”, a small store which contains Filipino, Indonesian, Malaysian store. I am exploring the possibilities of expanding the reach of their promotions policy, and venturing out into the use of advertisements in newspapers or magazines.

Letters: Wrong caption

Dear Editor,

First, let me express my admiration for your and Manila Mail’s enduring service to the Filipino-American community. Through this unparalleled publication, we are able to connect as a people, and share our collective thoughts, aspirations and predilections, among others.

The losing bets: A waste of money and effort

Sir:

In your previous issue, you included in your editorial the statement of Gus Alzona that Filipinos who will not support his candidacy are “Crabs”.  Are they crabs?

Letters: Peace talks?

Sir:

Ambassador Albert del Rosarrio is gone and my perception of the former Ambassador is that he is not the type of person who would come in the way of the two groups (The Philippine American Foundation for Charities and the Migrant Heritage Commission) let alone try to patch up their differences. What has happened to the two groups is not new in the Filipino American community in DC and perhaps in the entire world where there are Filipino organizations. I entertain no illusion about Filipino American organizations trying to outdo each other.

Letters: ?Crab mentality?

Dear Editor,

As one of the pioneers, in the second wave of Filipino migrants to America, who first arrived with my father, mother, brother and an uncle in 1955, I am amazed with the rapid population growth that our community here has been having, especially over the last half century. Many of us came to this country with just the “shirts on our backs” and little pocket change to boot. We eventually settled here, started new lives and most of us assimilated into our uniquely Asian Pacific American version of western culture.

Letters: Open Letter,

Hello everyone:

My name is Eleonor C. Lindner, a native of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, Philippines a neighboring town of St. Bernard. I just want to say “thank you” for your kindness and thoughtfulness to organize the Leyte Mudslide Benefit Concert. Just last week, I spoke to my relatives in Maasin, and was informed regarding the continuing “NEED” of the mudslide victims.

Letters: Letters to the Editor....

  The Leyte tragedy
Dear Editor,
Re the recent Leyte landslide tragedy, was it really unexpected? When loggers removed the trees that held the soil together? Wasn’t it really bound to happen? When water loosened the earth on that mountain side?
Was it the force of nature that killed this village? When government turned the other way and did not enforce the laws to end illegal logging?
Who is to blame? Certainly not God, when you tamper with his creations.
Certainly not the villagers who live quietly by the mountain side!
And President Gloria Arroyo says, “Help will come by air, land and sea.”
Too bad, it’s just a little bit late.
Maurese Oteyza Owens
Arlington, Va.
