MANILA - All sound bites and no real action. This was the reaction of some relatives of overseas Filipino workers stranded in war-torn Lebanon towards the government's stream of evacuation
orders and appeals to the combatants to spare the Filipinos with no concrete action being taken to rescue them.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo earlier ordered two Philippine navy vessels to go to Lebanon to rescue the OFWs, but it was abandoned because no money is available for its long journey to the Middle East. The President also reiterated her appeal to Israel and Hezbollah to spare the lives of Filipinos caught in the conflict. Vice President Noli de Castro is talking to a Greek shipping magnate who has reportedly offered to load the OFWs on his ships.
