free software writes "REDWOOD SHORES California - ABS-CBN Global’s The Filipino Channel (TFC), Aug. 23 announced a new weekly current affairs program, "SPEAK OUT", which made its debut Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. PDT.
The one-hour talk show tackles thought-provoking topics relevant to young, second generation
Filipino-Americans. It is the network's fourth U.S. produced television series, further fulfilling on TFC's strategy to produce more local content appealing to the tastes of the Filipino-American community.
At the same time it announced a new
docu-reality program, “Pinagmulan: The Journey Home,” which also premiered
August 27 at 6:30 p.m. PDT. The show is TFC’s third U.S. produced program.
The docu-reality program follows the
journey of Filipino-Americans in the United
States, as they reconnect with their family and heritage
in the Philippines.
Mike Guingona, Mayor of Daly City, California, hosts and accompanies the show’s
featured individuals as they trace their roots back to the home country.
The talk show features guest panelists
and a live studio audience to engage in compelling discussions on topics
ranging from Filipino cultural identity, interracial dating, battle of the
sexes, war, and other hot issues.
Panelists featured on “SPEAK OUT” will
include accomplished individuals from the Filipino-American community including
Benito Bautista, director of the independent feature film, “The Gift of Barong,”
“Dancing with the Stars” champion Cheryl Burke, “American Idol” finalist, Jose
Sway Penala, singer-comedienne Fe delos Reyes, and Bindlestiff performers Ryan
Morales and Mike Ricca, among others.
“This talk show was created as a venue
for second generation Filipino-Americans to freely express their ideas,
opinions, and concerns that are close to their hearts and part of their daily
experiences,” said Marites Militar, director of creative programming at TFC.
“It is our hope that the show will open new doors of communication between the
younger generation and their parents to facilitate better understanding and
foster togetherness within families and the community.”
“SPEAK OUT” is hosted by JC Gonzalez and
Tallulah David.

The premiere episode features the story
of Joann Hammer from Whittier, Calif.,
as she returns to her hometown of Baguio, the
“summer capital” in the Cordillera region of the northern Philippines.
Hammer’s last visit to the motherland was in 1974 and found change upon her
return. Having recently discovered her half-sister Diane, a child that her
father had sired outside of marriage, Hammer’s trip back home is a journey of forgiveness and
resolution.
