ALBAY = llision kills 11 persons
LEGAZPI CITY - Black Saturday lived up to its name for the victims of a
road mishap.
Eleven passengers were killed, and 10 others seriously wounded when a
Manila-bound bus rammed into a passenger jeep and a van along the
Maharlika Highway in Barangay Ilaor Norte, Oas town in Albay, police
said yesterday. The jeep and van were on their way to Legazpi City.
According to probers a Dan Rose Bus (EVK-325) was trying to overtake
another bus about 9:30 a.m. when it hit the oncoming jeepney and van.
Police said most of the fatalities were passengers of the jeepney and
the van.
Police identified the casualties as Edelyn Mamangon, Myleen Abache,
Janelle Abache from Potangui, Maria Victoria Alberga, Maria Vanesa
Alverga, and Rovic Alverga all of Ligao City; Jeremy, Erlinda,
Cassandra, Carmen, all surnamed Oquilda; and Wendel Moute, 6.
Undergoing medical treatment were Nelso Cuacchie, driver of the jeepney,
Paciano Caganda, Jesus Oranan, Angie Belmonte, Eden Llona, Jennifer
Llona, Salve Lominario, Ma. Celina Lominario, Eugenia Lanuza and Danilo
Dante, driver of the Besta van.
Bus driver Jose Binaday, 33, said a malfunction in the busâ?? steering
wheel when he was overtaking caused him to swerve onto the path of the
two other vehicles.
