Virginia Mamaed, 72

Virginia ??Jean? Mamaed of Arlington, Va. passed away in her sleep on March 6. She was born in Bauang,La Union, Philippines on Jan. 20, 1933. She is the youngest daughter of nine children of Vicente Yanguas Rinonos and the late Tirso Rinonos. She attended Far Eastern University in Manila. She worked for a year as a telephone operator at Signal Service Company in the Army in Diliman, Quezon City. She met Private First Class, Alipio ??Al? Mamaed, at a party at Camp Murphy, Quezon City. He asked her to dance and they??ve been dancing ever since. They courted for three years and married on Novemebr 15, 1958 at St. Ignatius Chapel in Camp Murphy.

They lived in Quezon City from 1958-68, where they raised their three children, Annabelle, Amalia and Arnie. She was a working mom at National Development Company, a member of the choir and of the bowling club. In 1964, Al was assigned to Malacanang Palace and later assigned to the Miltary Advisors?? Office of the Embassy of the Philippines, Washington, D.C.. Virgie and her children traveled to the U.S. two years after after Al??s assignment in 1968, settling in their Arlington home in 1969. Virginia and Al worked for the Embassy for 18 and 20 years, respectively. They started new careers at First Virginia Bank (now BB & T) where they worked until their retirement till 2001.

Virgie and her family were fond of traveling and vacationing throughout areas such as Florida, Virgina Beach, New York, Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Virgie loved to host parties, cook, dance and garden. She is survived by her husband, her mother, seven brothers and sisters, three children, and five grandchildren.
