Celebrating America's Many Cultures" is this year's theme of the Philippine Festival, according to Nick Tongson, President of PAFC and Chair of this year's Festival.
"America is a kaleidoscope of many cultures and all together they make up a colorful and vibrant community." Festival Co-chair Ernie Cordero of the Ilocano Society of American said, "The Filipino culture contributes immensely to this mix with its unique cuisine and music, collection of values and work ethic, and contributions of men and women to the labor force. We will highlight these throughout the Festival."
This year’s Festival opens with the Gala Ball, to be held on Saturday, June 2 at the J.W. Marriott on 14th St. and Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.

Ball announced that “this will be a unique and fun-filled evening. The
gala will reflect the theme featuring varied cultures from the East and West
that contribute to America’s rich fabric. Members of the Committee, including
Gloria Caoile, Mary Anne Fadul and Celia Donahue, are enjoining everyone to
save the date and make this 109th anniversary of Philippine independence and
the 101st anniversary of Filipinos in America a memorable celebration.
Special guests will come from the
diplomatic corps, federal, state and local governments. The Gala Ball will be
marked with cultural presentations, entertainment and dancing to a live band.

The Philippine Fair and Parade will be
held the next day, on June 3 along Pennsylvania Avenue, atarting at 11 a.m.
between 3rd and 6th Streets, NW, Washington, D.C.
The street festival will showcase the
rich and diverse cultures that influenced the dance, music and arts of the
Philippines. The Fair features exotic cuisine, handicrafts, family-oriented
games, live band performances as well as a parade display of colorful costumes
and vignettes amidst musicand fanfare. It will be free and open to the public.

The Fil Am Youth Festival_ will be held
on June 16 at Bishop O’Connell High School, Little Falls Road, Arlington
Virginia. It will feature sports (basketball, track, soccer, badminton and
tennis), Philippine Games, workshop on folk dancing, hip-hop, arnis/eskrima
martial arts, cultural dialogue, live musical performances, and many more.

The Community Picnic/Sports
