PENNSYLVANIA – Funeral services were held Jan. 27 for Nicole Alexis Carpio, 16, and her grandmother, Aurea Carpio, 88, who perished when their car plunged into the Tuscarawas River Jan. 21.
A daughter of Dr. Victoria Carpio of New
Philadelphia, Nicole was a junior at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High in New
Philadelphia. Nicole’s grandmother was born in the Philippines and was a
retired pharmacist. Tuscarawas County Coroner Dr. James Hubert confirmed that Nicole
and her grandmother died from accidental drowning. Police said the car Nicole
was driving fishtailed into the river probably due to slippery conditions of
the road. They added that the car’s window was open about six inches indicating
the car’s electrical system failed after it plunged into the rriver.
