DIGOS CITY-Bishop emeritus Generoso Camina, an outspoken critic of many government economic policies, died of complications from liver cancer at the San Pedro Hospital in Davao City around 6 a.m. Feb. 2.

Camina, 75, was the first bishop of Digos when it finally became a diocese in 1980. Fondly called Gene by acquaintances, Camina propelled the diocese into one of the most active units of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. On August 22, 1989, Cami±a founded the Apostolic Daughters of Mary (ADM), a congregation of nuns doing what he loved most: Working with the poor.
