ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) is launching on Tuesday the Microsoft Tulay Project in this city. At the same time, Owwa and its non-government organization (NGO) partner known as the Kapisanan ng mga Kamag-anak ng Migranteng Manggagawang Pilipino (KAKAMMPI-Mindanao) is inaugurating on the same day the Community Technology Learning Center (CTLC).
Owwa regional officer-in-charge Liddy Taledo said the project aims to equip Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, including those from the marginalized Muslim communities, with knowledge and skills in computer technology through free computer training and access to internet facilities.
These would entail
bridging of both the digital divide in the OFW sector and the physical divide
between OFWs and their families, according to Ta±edo. She said this welcome
development is made possible through Dole’s partnership with software giant
Microsoft Philippines, which pave the way for
Tulay: an Unlimited Potential Program for OFWs, responsible for the increasing
number of CTLCs set up in Owwa offices here and abroad.
