Ehrlich bares accomplishments

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Gov. Robert Ehrlich, Jr., has listed his accomplishments chief of which is the tax credits for thousands of Maryland families, military veterans, caregivers, and homeowners while holding the line on taxes for the fourth straight year. Despite this, Ehrlich has turned a record $4 billion in inherited deficits into $2 billion in budget surpluses since taking office.

In the press release issued by his press office, the Maryland governor cited the fact that he had made record investments in K-12 education, school construction and renovations, and higher education.



He made college more affordable for tens of thousands of students by boosting need-based college scholarship funding for the fourth straight year and freezing tuition levels at Maryland’s colleges and universities.
But the landmark bill he signed recently, besides expanding access to health Care, was the stem cell research initiative, making Maryland a national leader in cutting-edge medical research.
The Governor successfully passed his nurse support initiative to increase the number of bedside nurses in Maryland hospitals, expanded access to health care for the poor for the fourth straight year and won passage of his advance medical directive legislation to assist with difficult end of life decision-making.
As for the environment, the governor recently signed the Healthy Air Act into law to reduce air pollution in Maryland by record levels. He also made record investments to preserve environmentally sensitive land across Maryland, where one in every five acres is permanently protected.
On the issue of public safety, he raised the pay of and increased the number of correctional officers by 160 statewide.
