Tech Tips & Updates: Long Live the iPaq h5455

I remembered when I first got my iPaq h5455, I was really excited. It is the most powerful Pocket PC at that time. Great features on communications, security and entertainment. It has a built-in 802.11b wi-fi , bluetooth, biometric fingerprint reader and an SD memory slot, making it the number one choice in the PDA arena at that time.

The h5455 is the first iPaq to include a built-in 802.11g WiFi. There are times when the WiFi is hard to setup if your access point is secured. I had a chance to experiment and try to connect it to two routers, Netgear and Linksys. One thing that caught me is it works fine with all linksys routers from wireless b to g. I have use it with Linksys WRT54G and the older Linksys wireless b router. (not sure about the model). With the netgear, you have to disable the security to make it work. Maybe I’m missed something. Not quite sure.

The bluetooth works perfect. Although I have not tried to connect it other device except to our socket scan bar code scanner. Didn’t have any problem whatsoever.
It comes with the remote control application Nevo. You can use it as a universal remote control. I configured it to work on my Toshiba TV, Sony Wega, Panasonic TV and Sony DVD player and it work great .

iPaq h5455 Specification

  • 400MHz PXA250 XScale Processor
  • 16-bit 3.8" Transflective Color Display
  • Pocket PC 2002 - PPC2003 Upgradable
  • 64MB RAM / 48MB ROM
  • Onboard Bluetooth & 802.11b Wi-Fi
  • Removable Li-Polymer Battery
  • Weight: 7.26oz; 3.3 x 0.63 x 5.43"
  • Long Range IRDA Port
  • Secure Digital Slot w/ SDIO Support
  • Biometric Fingerprint Scanner

The h5455 has a long list of features that made it the most advanced iPaq and no.1 pda of choice when it was release. It was discontinued when the h5555 was release.
