FARV INDUCTION
VIRGINIA BEACH – Januario ‘Warie’ Azarcon, a lawyer and columnist
of the Manila Mail, was inducted by Sen. Geoge Allen, Sept. 9 at the Holiday Inn
Chesapeake as president of the Filipino American Republicans of Virginia (FAVR)
. He succeeds Vellie S. Dieterich-Hall, commissioner of the Presidential Advisory
Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Besides writing two regular columns for the Manila Mail – “Kibitzer”
and “Immigration Notes”- Warie is also a lawyer and partner of Sawyer
& Azarcon in Virginia. and president of Maya Media, Inc., publisher of the
newspaper. He is the current managing editor of lthe FAVR publication called “The
New Wave.” He has a law degree from the George Washington University in
Washington D.C.
An active community leader, he was at one time president of the Philippine American
Lawyer’s Association in Metro Washington and in 2004 was appointed member
othte Professional and Technical Studies Advisory Committee of the Fairfax Country
Public Schools.
Elected with him for the 2005-2007 term are vice president, Dr. Cynthia Romero;
treasurer, Astrophel Tejada, recording secretary, Miriam Silverio, corresponding
secretary, Rebecca Pagsibigan; auditor, Teodoro de Jesus, and PRO, Maurese Owens.
Members of the board are Dr. Rene Alvir, Norma H. Azarcon, Dr. Oscar Laserna,
Dr. Alfredo Legaspi, Dr. Amante Legaspi, Vellie Dietrich-Hall, Dr. Rise Faith-Dayao,
Miriam Silverio Maria Sullivan, and Virginia Beach councilman Ron Villanueva.
Dr. Jane Legaspi of Chesapeake was the chair of the gala committee with Dr. Norma
Magpoc as vice chair.
Other members of the gala committee responsible for the preparations are Dr. Dajao,
Dr. Romero, Nroma Azarcon, Felipe Cabsacoy, Roy Estaris, Elma Pascual, Dr. Lolita
Ramos, Counciman Villanueva, Nenette Ibayl, dr. and Mrs. Mely Gangoy, Dr. Irene
Mesina, Astrophel Tejada and Nonie Abrajano.
Proceeds from the gala dinner-dance- induction will benefit the Kilgore-Bolling-McDonnell
ticket and Filipino American candidates running for office.
FAVR is pushing for a Jerry Kilgore victory in the November elections in Virginia.
Councilman Villanueva is also seeking reelection to the city council of Virginia
Beach in May 2006. Elected to a four-year term in July 2002, Villanueva is the
lone Asian Amercan in the council.
He is responsible for the placement of more than 20 Filipino Americans to Virginia
Beach boards and commissions.
FAVR supports the bills pending in Congress to provide Filiino veterans benefits
for their service in World War II.
