Philippine News: Asean meet dry run in Cebu city

CEBU CITY - As dry run to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in December, the local task force for the event will also handle security for the Apec Business Advisory Council (Abac) conference from Aug. 11 to 16. President Arroyo is expected to be in Cebu to meet with 30 chief executives of top international corporations and discuss strategies on making the Philippines more competitive for the global outsourcing demand.

Negros Occidental builds ‘pee’ stops

BAGO, Negros Occidental - To improve tourism in the province, “pee” stops will be constructed in Bago and Himamaylan cities, and in the towns of Pontevedra, Hinigaran, and Binalbagan on August 10. Negros Occidental Governor Joseph Maranon said the restrooms will be put up near the plaza or gasoline stations for the convenience of both local and foreign visitors.

It will also include a display stall of local delicacies and products to enhance the local industries and uplift the plight of small-scale entrepreneurs, Maranon said. The restrooms, is a project of the Women in Travel who have lobbied for the support of the local government executives in the cities and municipalities for over a year.

Luci Lizares-Yunque, president of Women In Travel-Bacolod Chapter, said in her letter to Maranon that the project will help boost the Province’s tourism industry especially among local and foreign tourists on a long-distance travel.
