HEAVY FAVORITE VILORIA LOSES TITLE TO
MEXICAN. The
bright prospect for yet another great Filipino boxing champion vanished into
thin air, when the Brian Viloria, the young Pinoy sensation unexpectedly
lost his title to unheralded Omar Nino Moreno of Guadalajara, Mexico in Las
Vegas Nevada recently.
Viloria, also called the Hawaiian
Punch because of his punching power fought listlessly which puzzled his fans
no end. Viloria who was known for putting up power packed
combinations was hitting his opponent one punch at a time. “I have no
excuse. I fought a dumb fight and hope to regain my aggressiveness next
time,” he reportedly told some people.
The night was salvaged by another Pinoy
pugilist Diosdado Gabi, who scored a sensational first round knock out of
Mauricio Pastrana of Colombia, a former three time world champion in the
Flyweight division. It took just 96
seconds for Gabi a native of Davao City to flatten Pastrana..
PINOY GOLFER GRABS CALIFORNIA CROWN.
Marvin Dumandan,
showed plenty of heart when he came storming back after blowing a two
point lead in the early rounds. Dumandan nipped fancied Freddie Wolfe, to bag
the North Orange County Amateur Gold crown at the Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba
Linda early this month. The win bolstered the spirits of Dumandan who
provided the latest in a growing list of victories in foreign lands
posted by members of the ICTSI team. Dumandan, will lead a
crack 8-man RP team to the Singapore Amateur Golf Tournament.
RP POOL ARTISTS RAKE ‘EM IN . Gandy Valle downed Ronnie
Alcano, 11-5, to clinch the first finals berth in the BSCP National Pool
Championship at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. Valle, 29, thus assured himself
of at least P500,000 for making the finals and a chance for more.
Dennis Orcollo raked in $80,000 or a cool P4 million in Las Vegas last
month . Other Pinoy pool artists stand to make millions this year alone.
