Kutitap: SEASONS OF LIFE

Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each season represents a stage in the cycle of life: spring suggests youth; summer symbolizes young adulthood; autumn is middle age; and winter stands for maturity. I parallel the seasons to the developments in the stages of life. The weather change is predictable, but every period has its own character, wonder and challenges as our life is. We constantly create positive positions to negative situations to balance the "ups and downs" of life.

Talking about the real seasons, I am one of those who like the four seasons and I’m glad I live in a place where the weather changes. It was by choice. I fell in love with the visual change of sight in our surroundings every three months. After a cold winter, spring gets here no matter what. After the thick, heavy and binding clothes, I welcome the light and airy wardrobe. The mood change is from serene to pretty in pale pink attitude. The almost black and white picturesque is transformed to colorful landscapes. Then comes summer when trees become thick with green leaves, specks of florals on the ground. The steamy weather requires us to show more skin in clothes. Just when we feel enough of the hottie temperature comes the crisp air with the enchanting palette of colors - gold, red and yellow around us. Winter wonderland comes again and the cycle repeats itself. There’s excitement in every season.

The fashion for the spring is again the metallic tones (fabric or eyeshadow), the floral or graphic prints, sheer fabric blouse, feminine ruffles, belts (wide), headgear (hat or fabric wrap), red lips, sporty sunglasses, ballerina flat shoes, wedges and platform sandals with strappy details, neutral trend like latte.

I visited my closet and found some items that came back like the metallic top or jacket, the wide red belt, black and white platform sandals, ballerina polka dot flats, chic and artsy sunglasses and even some headgear. Am I glad I did not discard them as fast.

The Cycle of Life

Happy news, sad news. People come and go. Things happen, at times without warnings. The recent past has been a roller coaster of emotions in the community.

Congratulations:

Tess McAvoy of Herndon, Virginia recently accepted the position of Vice-President and Business Development Manager at Mercantile Potomac Bank in Annandale, Virginia. Tess who is a Filipina married to an American, has earned an MBA degree before joining said bank.

Birth of Grandchildren:

Jon and Elvie Melegrito were ecstatic grandparents of a baby girl named Maya. Lolo Jon wrote an inspiring tribute to his apo in his column in the last issue of the Manila Mail. Alan and Florence Hansen of Vienna, Virginia were the proud grandparents of a baby boy named Logan, born a couple of weeks ago. Both retired, they’re busy now-a-days with the first Hansen grandchild.

Tony and Ched Bautista called their friends to announce the arrival of their two grandchildren born just days apart. No, they are not twins.  The babies were the children of their two daughters who were delivered just days apart.

Sick:

Oscar and Evelyn Bunoan recently returned back from the Philippines to visit Oscar’s sick mother. Friends of the couple here prayed for her recovery.

Pete Roa, husband of Boots Anson Roa, was hospitalized for a minor operation in Manila. They returned back to the Philippines several years back to live there permanently. Two of their children, Leah and Ben, remained here in Virginia while the other two, Joey and Chiqui went home with them. Many friends of the popular couple are praying for Pete’s early recovery.

Germie de Asis, a community leader and a choreographer died of cardiac arrest. Friends and family were shocked with the news as Germie was only 57 years old. Numerous members of the community attended the wake at Kalas Funeral Home in Oxon Hills, MD.
