PALAWAN - Petronilo Amorin, an official of the Commission on Elections in Palawan was shot dead by an unidentified gunman April 4 on his way back to the Comelec office. Amorin, election assistant 2 in Puerto Princesa, was walking on his way back to the Comelec office in Barangay San Pedro when the assailant shot him once to the head. "We are calling for an in-depth investigation to determine the suspect. If this is politically motivated, it would not speak well of the political situation in that area. But we also have to find out if there are personal motives behind the incident," Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said.

Albino de la Cruz sought the disqualification of Valencia for allegedly having a
dual citizenship being an alleged Filipino-American. De la Cruz attached in his
complaint records from the Bureau of Immigration and Valencia’s passport indicating
the latter alleged dual citizenship. “Having dual citizenship renders anyone
ineligible to run for any public office as provided in Rule 23, Section 11 of
the Comelec Rules of Procedures," Albino said. But Valencia said the
disqualification case against him was already moot because, “I am now a
Filipino so I know this case will be dismissed soon."
