UNITED NATIONS – Despite the protests of various local and international human rights’ groups, the Philippines May 17 won an extended three-year term at the United Nations Human Rights Council, INQUIRER.net learned soon after the voting. The Philippines was one of the first members of the council that was created last year.
As its one-year term is about to expire, it campaigned for this extension before its term ends. The Philippines won one of the 14 available seats in the council by garnering 179 of 190 votes.
