The Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC)
early this month joined the Fiesta Asia festival in Washington D.C.
The Philippines had the biggest
contingent in the parade which included the Aklan Ati-Atihan group of Virginia
and Maryland.
Leading the Philippine contingent that
included various Filipino American groups was Arnedo S. Valera, executive
director of the newly-formed Migrant Heritage Commission.
Among the Filipino attendees at the
Fiesta Asia in the nation’s capital, according to Migrant, were JR and Marivic
Aquino (Pangasinan Ass’n), Denia Calaro (FilMinistry of St. Michael), Carl
Abella (PACC & MHC Adviser), Janet Calahong (Phil.Nurses Ass’n), Philippine
Embassy Official Grace Valera and 2006 PFC Chair Dr. Bambi Lorica (PMA). Dr.
Bayani Manalo of the UPAA and Philippine Medical Ass’n and Nurse Denia Calaro
were among the medical team that examined patients for free during the affair.
Other Filipino doctor and nurses who formed the Fiesta Asia Medical Team were
Dr. Abraham Bacarra (Ilocano Society of America) and nurses Janet Calahong,
Judy Campanilla, Elizabeth Valera, Gertrude Reambonanza and Nonna Reyes
(Philippine Nurses Ass’n and Washington Hospital).
